This was a particularly special performance. My good friend Katie Butler plays viola in W8ing4UFOs, and on this night they were on stage at Variety Playhouse, opening for Cat Power. It was a full house on a Monday. FLAP, another local band, was also on the bill, rounding out an all-Atlanta lineup supporting A Cappella Books' 30th Anniversary. Beyond just celebrating three decades of being Atlanta's only in-town, full-service bookstore, the show served an even greater purpose - raising funds for Common Good Atlanta, a charity that provides incarcerated individuals with access to higher education.
